Christmas lunch and dinner food and wine pairings

Christmas lunch and dinner food and wine pairings

Below are some suggestions for selecting the perfect wine to accompany your various Christmas meals. We have easy instructions for all of the below mouth-watering recipe's, so if any tickle your Christmas palate, then please contact us and we will send them to you. Make sure you let us know if your culinary endeavours impressed your family. Pairing food and wine is quite subjective, but here are our thoughts for your consideration.

Opening of the presents

It just wouldn't be Christmas if you didn't begin the festivities with a glass of Sparkling White or Champagne. A glass of Sparkling White for your guests upon arrival as well as during the opening of the presents will ensure a great start to the day! Sparkling White is also a great way to cleanse the palate in preparation for lunch or dinner.

Christmas Lunch

Aperitif:         A light Rose with semi dried tomato and fetta frittatas

Starter:         Prawns with avocado cream and baby cos lettuce leaves served with chilled Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

or

Antipasti of marinated artichokes, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, eggplant, olives and basil served with Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Main:            For those having the traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings for our main, perhaps try a full-bodied Chardonnay. This will be rich enough to cope with all the trimmings that accompany the turkey.

or

Chicken terrine with apricots and pinenuts served with chilled unwooded Chardonnay

or

Wild rice salad with roasted pecans, watercress and red grapes with lime and black pepper dressing served with chilled unwooded Chardonnay

After:          Cheese platter of blue brie, gouda and goat and sheep milk cheese with dried apricots, muscatels and dry roasted almonds served with espresso coffee or maybe a sweet wine such as a Botrytis Semillon.

If you’ve still left room for Christmas dinner, then we suggest the following:

Christmas Dinner

                                                              or

or

Flourless chocolate cake served with Sparkling Shiraz

or

Chocolate pavlova with strawberries and cream served with Rose
